Banks do not inventory box contents. So whatever comes out is, by definition, unverifiable against what went in. If a beneficiary later believes something is missing, there is no document that can answer them — unless one is made at the moment of opening, in front of witnesses.
How the opening should be handled
- Bring your authority — the bank will require it before access.
- Open with witnesses present, ideally including someone independent.
- Inventory and photograph in the booth, before anything is moved.
- Seal on the spot, with numbers recorded on your copy.
- Transport directly, with no other stops.
How we handle it

- 02Meet you at the branch; you open the box, we do not.
- 03Witness and record the inventory you make in the booth.
- 04Seal in your presence and record the numbers.
- 05Direct transport to the vault, signed in under the estate.
Check what the bank requires before the day. Some branches want the court appointment, some want a bank officer present, some want notice. A wasted trip with the family assembled is an avoidable and demoralizing morning.

- No. You open it; we attend as witnesses and as the people who carry it out.
- What does the bank need?
- Usually documented court authority, and requirements vary by branch. Check before the day.
- Why does it need witnesses?
- Because no inventory of the contents exists anywhere. The record made at opening is the only one that will ever exist.
- Can we do several boxes?
- Yes, each as its own collection with its own inventory and seals. They are not combined.
